Mike Norvell Signs Contract Extension With Florida State
The Florida State Seminoles are one of college football's most under-the-radar teams heading into 2023. Head coach Mike Norvell had his best season at the helm, leading them to a 10-3 record with a win in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl over Oklahoma.
The athletic department recognized his accomplishments with a contract extension on Wednesday afternoon. Brett McMurphy of the Action Network reported the two sides have agreed on a deal that runs through the 2029 season.
The public consensus was down on Norvell entering the year, especially after Florida State lost highly touted corner Travis Hunter to Jackson State and head coach Deion Sanders. He went 8-13 in his first two years with the Seminoles and entered 2022 on the hot seat.
Norvell lived up to everyone's expectations and has Florida State as a national contender entering 2023. Tennessee is in the Seminoles' domain; young head coaches have restored two historic programs that were in down periods.
It's critical to keep tabs on important teams around the country. While Florida State isn't in the SEC, the Volunteers may eventually run into them down the road if they hope to contend for national prominence.
