National Analyst Says Vols Have "Slight Edge" For Zalance Heard

Former LSU Tigers offensive tackle Zalance Heard is slightly trending toward the Tennessee Volunteers, according to On3's Pete Nakos.
In this story:

Offensive linemen have been a big priority for Tennessee's coaching staff. Offensive line coach Glen Elarbee and head coach Josh Heupel have been working in tandem to ensure that the Vols can properly protect quarterback Nico Iamaleava. One transfer they had their eyes set on was former LSU offensive tackle Zalance Heard.

Heard was the No. 15 player in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings. He ranks as the No. 17 transfer in the entire NCAA Transfer Portal and would be a plug-and-play addition for Tennessee. He took official visits to Oklahoma and Tennessee, and there were behind-the-scenes talks about Tennessee pacing the race. On3's Pete Nakos updated his transfer portal intel, which you can read here, and mentioned the following on Heard.

"The top domino still on the board, LSU offensive lineman Zalance Heard had a quiet weekend. He was not on the road taking visits. The former top-25 prospect in the 2023 cycle is down to Oklahoma and Tennessee. Ole Miss was trying to get in the mix but has since backed off. The Sooners and Tennessee both give Heard the option to play in the SEC, but the Volunteers have the top-tier NIL program giving them the slight edge." - On3's Pete Nakos on Zalance Heard
