Vols Offense Sparks in UTSA Win
Tennessee needed a big day on offense to justify their direction. It’s been tough to move on from current Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker; Joe Milton III was uneven through his first three starts, and his playmakers did him no favors. However, that all changed against UTSA.
Milton accounted for three touchdowns and was efficient throughout the afternoon. He has peaks and valleys, and he did miss some throws in the second half, but he had his most clean performance of the season. The football was out on-time and in rhythm, and his targets looked better as a result.
The rushing attack was also excellent, rebounding from a poor performance in Gainesville, Florida. All three running backs had moments throughout the game, but Dylan Sampson stole the show. He continues to be a strong downhill runner for a team that has needed one. Giving Milton a run game to lean on has been everything this year, and the passing game finally complemented the run.
They are now 3-1 and moving on to a home game against South Carolina. Beating the Gamecocks and exacting revenge for last year would be another strong step for this group. They responded to adversity well on Saturday afternoon, something that they must deal with moving forward to dismay the many skeptics around this program. Milton, in particular, had a big game, something that should serve as a moment for him to lean on this season.
