Young Vols Backfield Delivers Impressive Afternoon
Cam Seldon and DeSean Bishop are two freshman running backs sitting in the Vols' deep running back room. Both of the young backs got valuable touches in the spring game on Saturday afternoon.
Seldon had a great game finishing with 86 all-purpose yards, and had an explosive 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The speed he showed all afternoon is something the offense really loved to watch coming from a huge 6-foot-2-inch running back.
Seldon did really well catching the ball out of the backfield as well. He was available to all three quarterbacks all day. He even broke out for a big 23-yard gain on a pass connection from Nico Iamaleava.
Bishop played really well along with Seldon. It was his first time to show out in front of his hometown, being a three-star recruit out of Karns High School in Knoxville. He finished with 73 rushing yards.
He also had 24 carries throughout the game. It was the most out of any player on runs during the afternoon. It was clear that Tennessee's play callers wanted to see some action out of the Knoxville native. The surprise performances out of the younger players in Tennessee's already stacked running back position group show that there is a bright future for the Vol's run game. They already have a strong current core, but stacking future depth is still essential in college football.
