Freddie Dilione Gets Unique Offseason Opportunity
Freddie Dilione was a mid-year enrollee for the Tennessee Volunteers basketball program last season. He did not play in any games but traveled with the team and participated in activities with the team.
Dilione played at Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the number one player in the state as a four-star and 7th among combo guards in the 2022 class.
In his junior season at Trinity Christian, a school in Fayetteville, N.C., he averaged 21.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and a steal a game. 247 Sports scout Adam Finkelstein described Dilione as everything ranging from a productive wing player to a bigger guard. His size has a lot to contribute to this statement. Dilione is 6 feet and 5 inches tall and weighs close to 200 pounds. The size allows him to create great downhill drives to the rim and to defend at nearly every level of the court.
His size could be something head coach Rick Barnes would like out on the floor. Dilione could bring physicality to retool next year's team. It also is a good sign that his defense has improved as he has gotten closer to college hoops. This will help him make a name in Knoxville and give him more playing time.
He also still has a good enough handle to become a primary ball-handler. The Volunteers could use this since there was a limit to that all last season. He certainly is a huge name that could stir up Tennessee's already mysterious backcourt for next season.
