The Halftime Report: Tennessee vs. Kentucky
After a very poor first half shooting the ball from both teams, Kentucky leads Tennessee 39 to 19. In the first meeting this season between these two teams, Tennessee scored 56 points and it looks like in this meeting they might score less.
Tennessee shot 25.9% from the field and hit 1 three in the half. Kentucky didn't shoot the ball well either, but they did more than enough with the way Tennessee shot the ball. Jahmai Mashack was the lone bright spot for Tennessee as he finished the half with 7 point and 5 rebounds. For Kentucky, Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston led their offensive attack with 12 and 9 points respectively.
Outside of making shots, getting back in this game for Tennessee will depend on rebounding and turnovers. Tennessee is losing the rebounding battle 22 to 15 and is also losing the turnover battle 6 to 4. These are obviously two things that the Vols typically excel at.
On the offensive end, it might be wise for for Rick Barnes to try to get back to his pin down sets with Tyreke Key and Mashack coming off the screens. These are obviously harder to execute without Josiah-Jordan James, but they might be the only way that the Vols can initiate half court offense.
