Santiago Vesocvi Makes All-SEC First Team
With the SEC Tournament beginning tomorrow, all-conference teams are beginning to come out. The coaches' team came out on Monday, and Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi made the first team.
It's been an up-and-down season for Vescovi. He played exceedingly well to begin conference play but then suffered an injury against Kentucky. After returning from a small absence, Vescovi missed crucial free throws in three consecutive games. Nonetheless, he rebounded and has found his stride in the season's final few games.
Vescovi is now the most experienced guard in Tennessee's program after guard Zakai Zeigeler tore his ACL, ending his season. Tyreke Key is also a senior but transferred this previous season from Indiana State. B.J. Edwards plays like a true guard like Zeigler, but he is only a redshirt freshman who has received limited minutes.
Although all viable options, the next best guess coach Barnes gave to who will receive a lot of the minutes running point was Santiago Vescovi. The senior out of Montevideo, Uruguay is the Vols' scoring leader (12.4 points per game). He also averages the most minutes a game on the team (32.5 a game).
