Tennessee Selection Sunday Seed Prediction

The Tennessee Volunteer's attention turns toward Sunday as seeding will be determined for the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
In this story:

Following the Vols' quarterfinal loss to the Missouri Tigers, selection Sunday now wanes for the Volunteers as they await the seed they will hold for the NCAA tournament.

Despite occasional lapses throughout the season, Tennessee finished the year with a great resume to carry into the selection process. The Vols had an overall record of 23-10 and an SEC record of 11-7.

The biggest booster to Tennessee's resume is the number of quad one wins. They have seven on the year, including wins over the USC Trojans and Kansas Jayhawks in the Bahamas in November. It also includes home wins against Texas, Alabama, and Arkansas. And then the wins round out with a neutral site victory over Maryland and then a road victory against Mississippi State.

The quad 1 resume is not the only thing going for them. According to the KenPom, the Vols are 5th overall (NET ranking) and have the No. 2 defense in the country with a ranking of 88.0. Their offensive rating is also in the upper half of college basketball at 52nd overall with a rating of 112.7.

Tennessee also stuck around in the top 25 all season, beginning at No. 11. They got as high as No. 2 in the country and went as low as 17th in the nation. They finished 17th to end the season.

Being a top 25 team all year, having a good sample of quad one wins, and being top 5 in the NET ranking. The Vols are bound for a high seed to come tomorrow during the show. Although it may not be a one or two seed, it is feasible enough to see the Volunteers with a three or four seed when it is all said and done.

ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi currently has Tennessee as a three-seed.

MY PREDICTION: 4th seed

The NCAA Selection show will be Sunday, March 12th, at 6 p.m. E.T.
