Elite 2022 OT Jacob Hood talks Vols and Glen Elarbee, recruitment, pancake blocks and more

2022 Hillsboro offensive tackle Jacob Hood stands at 6-foot-8, and he weighs 330 lbs. While Hood appears a gentle giant on camera, last Saturday showed he can flip the switch when he steps between the white lines.

Jacob Hood is a large human being — there’s just no other way to put it.

At 6-foot-8, 330 lbs., Hood’s kind demeanor off the field could label him as a “gentle giant,” as some would say.

But when the 2022 Hillsboro product steps between the white lines, he can flip the switch.

Hood showed as much last Saturday, registering a mammoth block during drills at the “Big Man Battle,” which was the linemen portion of the Rocky Top 7-v-7 event in Gatlinburg.

Hood controlled the pace from the whistle, maintaining leverage and using good hand placement and footwork to drive his opposition. The play ended with a flattening pancake block, and Hood swam over his competition in celebration — or, maybe just to get off him.

After the play, Hood spoke with VR2 on SI about the block, as well as his overall recruitment and what he’s heard from Tennessee, especially the offensive line staff. That video can be seen at the top.
