After a great spring and summer of AAU ball, Imhotep Institute guard Ahmad Nowell has committed to play at UConn. The 2024 combo guard chose the Huskies over Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia Tech. Tennessee was once thought of as the favorite to land Nowell, but Dan Hurley and his staff recruited Nowell extremely hard this summer and it paid off. Nowell is the second 4-star and commit in UConn's 2024 class, joining Isaiah Abraham.

What impresses me the most about Nowell is how college ready he looked as a junior in high school. Standing at around 6-2, according to On3, Nowell has a very good frame for a guy his size. He weighs around 180 pounds and knows how to use his weight to his advantage. Nowell will do this by sealing defenders on ball screens to get into the lane.

Nowell is a 2-way guard who made a huge impact on a very good Team Final EYBL team during the spring and summer. In the spring sessions, Nowell averaged 13.7 points, 5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He also showed his defensive ability, getting multiple steals in 7 out of the 17 spring games he played. At Peach Jam, Nowell's passing was on full display as he averaged 6 assists per game against the best competition in the country.

For Tennessee, the Vols still are searching for their first commit in the 2024 class although that's not necessarily something to be worried about. Even though the Vols got under the scholarship limit with Chris Ledlum's departure, they have a lot of young guards who could stay multiple years in Knoxville. Nowell would have been a great get and he would've been a great fit in Knoxville, but his playing time at UConn is probably more guaranteed.
