Commitment Day Preview: Final Thoughts On Edwin Spillman
Tennessee has long courted four-star inside linebacker Edwin Spillman. The Lipscomb Academy standout is the younger brother of 2023 Tennessee signee Nate Spillman. The younger Spillman is also teammates with 2024 Tennessee corner commit Kaleb Beasley, so there's been a heavy orange presence in his recruitment since the beginning of his high school career.
Vol fans have been hearing about Edwin for years, and decision day has finally come. Spillman will decide between Ohio State and Tennessee today at 2:30 PM EST. The Buckeyes have surged for Spillman in recent months, and after a productive official visit to Columbus, Ohio, a legitimate battle broke out. Many wrote Spillman off to Tennessee - the Vols were one of the first schools that actively recruited him, and the aforementioned connections certainly don't hurt. He's looking for a specific environment that can enhance his future goals. Spillman spoke with Volunteer Country in February and said he's looking for "a place that cares about their players, a place that will make their players great, a place that will make me a great man, and will help me reach my goals."
While Ohio State has done a good job pitching Spillman, I still believe that Tennessee gives Spillman the best opportunity on the football field. They have several pending departures in their inside linebacker room, and Spillman could compete for early playing time after getting to campus. The Vols have also really wanted him for a long time and ensured that they made Spillman's pitch different from his brother's. They've made him feel like an important individual since they offered, and ultimately, I believe that wins out.
