Blue-Chip Tennessee QB Target Deuce Knight Transfers To Nashville Powerhouse
Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has become a hot name on the recruiting trail, especially for Tennessee fans. The rising junior has logged offers from Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and more this offseason after posting 2,417 total yards and 23 total touchdowns in his first season of full-time starting action.
Tennessee offered Knight in June 2022 and has been insistent in its pursuit since that day. They've gotten him on campus four times since then and have become one of his top schools. Knight caught up with Volunteer Country in Los Angeles, California, during the OT7 event and confirmed that Tennessee remains in his top group. "It's one of the first schools that believed in me as a player," Knight said. "They jumped on me before all the hype out here, and that means a lot to any player." The Vols were his fourth offer, and he quickly began forming a relationship with then quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle. Halzle has since been promoted to offensive coordinator while maintaining his responsibilities as quarterback coach.
Halzle has been on Knight from the beginning. "He always lets me know that I'm loved over at Tennessee," Knight explained. "Him and Coach Mitch [Militello], they always tell me before we get off the phone, 'You are a special player. We are waiting on you.' That means a lot that they are letting me know that they are waiting on me. What we can do in that offense is special." Several other schools are pushing in this one, with Ole Miss, TCU, and Notre Dame pushing with Tennessee. Alabama also joined his recruitment and hosted him on an unofficial visit, but we believe they are a step behind the top four.
Many positives are working in Tennessee's favor in this one, but Knight gave them even more good news on Sunday evening. He announced that he would transfer from his Mississippi high school, George County, to join Lipscomb Academy, a Nashville powerhouse defending two consecutive state championships. He joins Tennessee commits Kaleb Beasley and Edwin Spillman, who will certainly be in his ear over the next few months. Tennessee is also actively recruiting 2025 five-star quarterback George MacIntyre, a Nashville resident who plays for Brentwood Academy. MacIntyre and Knight will now officially face off in high school, with Lipscomb hosting Brentwood on October 20.
