Four-Star LB DJ McClary Includes Vols In Top Schools
When it comes to New Jersey guys, you do not often hear of Tennessee going after them. That region is less SEC country and more so Big Ten and others. However, one linebacker stood out to the Vols from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City and was offered by Tennessee's staff in April.
That linebacker would be DJ McClary. McClary is the 100th-ranked national player in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. While Tennessee has spent much of its recruiting energy as of late on its 2024 class, they have still been doing its due diligence on the 2025 class and getting ahead of the curve.
McClary recently revealed his top eight schools thus far while reiterating that his recruitment is still open. The Vols are one of two SEC schools that made the cut, with Shane Beamer's South Carolina Gamecocks also gunning for the young Backer. Among other schools involved and included are Rutgers, USC, Oregon, Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State. As mentioned earlier, expect McClary to lean Big Ten heavy as his recruitment heats up. However, don't take this as Tennessee not having a shot. As we have seen before, guys are not scared to relocate significantly to be a part of what Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is building in Knoxville. As McClary enters his junior season, it will be interesting to keep an eye on his success on the field and what it means for his recruitment.
