Edrees Farooq Commits To Tennessee
The Tennessee Volunteers had a productive weekend on the field and the recruiting trail. They had their annual spring game on Saturday, and both squads looked sharp. They also impressed five-star defensive end Kamarion Franklin, who scheduled an official visit minutes after the game concluded.
2024 three-star safety Edrees Farooq committed to Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. While recruiting services may not hold him in high esteem, several high-caliber programs were targeting Farooq, signifying how talented he is. Ohio State was a primary suitor, and the Buckeyes were trying to turn up the heat before this weekend. He has been to Knoxville four times and is enthralled with the atmosphere.
It was difficult for Farooq to pick Tennessee over Ohio State, but he shared with On3's Chad Simmons that the Vols were in his recruitment much longer than the Buckeyes.
"It was easy but difficult at the same time because Ohio State was really up there too. Just the fact that Ohio State came a little later, Tennessee proved to me that they were loyal because they've been there the whole time and kept the same energy. They didn't change up for no one."
He now joins a secondary class featuring corner Kaleb Beasley and safety Marcus Goree. Tennessee is actively pursuing several other high-profile defensive backs, most notably in-state athlete Boo Carter. The coaching staff has focused on retooling the secondary, and they are beginning to accomplish that.
