The Vols got a lot bigger on Friday evening. Three-star defensive end Jeremias Heard committed to Tennessee, becoming the tenth 2024 commit for head coach Josh Heupel and company. Heard is a Georgia native who stands a staggering 6-9 and 285 pounds.

Heard plays for Model High School in Rome, Georgia, home to many elite prospects. Adjusting to SEC competition won't be an issue, as he has been playing Power-5 football players for many years. Tennessee was his only offer, and he visited campus five times. The coaching staff identified him early in the process, and his rankings should rocket after committing.

He just finished playing his first season of football, meaning Tennessee is potentially getting in on a high-impact player. He's played football for ten months and is an SEC commit; it's hard to imagine he doesn't improve in the coming seasons. After his commitment, he shared several interesting quotes with On3, saying he's trying to improve, "The small things in the game. Trying to become a better teammate, lead others, and lead in the community. I am trying to improve upon stuff like that." After a recent visit, he shared, "Saturday, I got to meet up with a lot of new people. I met up with people that play my position and other positions. I talked to coaches all day, mostly, and I loved being around them. Then the game was nice atmosphere. It was a nice day out there."
