Kane Archer Talks Tennessee, Early Recruitment Process

Quarterback Kane Archer is a high school freshman but has logged 13 offers and stands out to several national brands. Archer talks the Tennessee Volunteers and more here.

The most important position in sports is quarterback. They dictate the motion of twenty-one other players on the field at any given time and get all the attention, win or loss. It's why college coaching staffs spend time early in recruiting cycles developing relationships with the next crop at the position.

Quarterback Kane Archer is one of the early 2026 quarterback names. Archer has thirteen offers, including programs like Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. The Greenwood, Arkansas, native has visited USC and Arkansas since his freshman season concluded.

It's been a rollercoaster the past few months for Archer, but he's ready for the spotlight and is quickly becoming a national name. A viral MaxPreps video compared his current measurables to NFL starting quarterbacks, and Archer routinely came in toward the top percentile.

He caught up with Volunteer Country recently to discuss what his recruitment has looked like, what he looks for in a program and head coach, and the top contenders for his services.

Question: How do you deal with the pressure and spotlight that accompany being a big name this early?

Archer: There's no pressure. As a youth player, I played in three national championships, back to back to back. I’m a football player, and talking in the media doesn’t bother me at all. I think I want to major in communications and be a sports broadcaster when I’m done with football.

Question: What are your plans for the spring? Are any visits lined up?

Archer: Not sure on places to visit yet. I have a couple of private events where multiple colleges will be there evaluating quarterbacks.

Question: What are you looking for in a program that recruits you? What are you looking for in a college system?

Archer: I’m looking for a teacher, not just a scheme guy. I want to be in a quarterback-friendly system and one that has a good culture with stability.

Question: What do you imagine your recruitment looks like over time?

Archer: I’m humbled by the interest of colleges so far. Not sure what it’s going to look like, but I’ve been lifting since I was eight years old and training with 3DQB since I was 11. I’ve had a plan, and I'm just trying to do that to the best of my ability.

Question: Where does Tennessee sit in your recruitment?

Archer: Tennessee is a very strong program and is doing great things with Coach Heupel. Top five in my recruiting, and again, it’s early.
