LOOK: Jontae Gilbert Visits Tennessee
Douglass High School corner Jontae Gilbert has been one of the top defensive backs in the 2025 cycle over the past few years. Volunteer Country saw him perform at the Elite 11 last summer in Los Angeles, California, and he was pound-for-pound at the top corner attending despite being surrounded by other top names.
Gilbert is the No. 76 prospect in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings. He's scheduled summer official visits with the South Carolina Gamecocks and the USC Trojans. Several other top programs are pursuing Gilbert to get him on campus. Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and Texas are some programs giving chase.
On Friday afternoon, he was in Knoxville, Tennessee, for the third time. Gilbert posted a picture with Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel to his X account. Gilbert is feeling the love from Tennessee. The coaching staff prioritizes building relationships with recruits beyond the football field, making them feel like a priority to the university, not just the football program. Two Tennessee assistants have been spearheading his recruitment - defensive coordinator Tim Banks and defensive backs coach Willie Martinez. "Coach Martinez and Coach Banks really love me and really want me," Gilbert told Volunteer Country. "They call my coaches to check up on me, so I feel like I’m a priority to them."
