Marcus Goree Narrows Recruitment

Priority defensive back Marcus Goree is down to five schools, and the Tennessee Volunteers are holding firm in his recruitment.
In this story:

Tennessee has gone in on two things in the 2024 class: in-state talent and refined athletes. Defensive back Marcus Goree fits both requirements, and the two parties have been linked together for months.

Goree was in Knoxville for Tennessee's massive win over Alabama. He and many others came away quite impressed with the atmosphere. Additionally, the Volunteers have a lot of flexibility in their defensive backfield, which would be a natural fit for Goree.

He narrowed his recruitment down to five schools on Thursday morning. Goree's finalists are Tennessee, Colorado, Nebraska, Michigan, and Michigan State. Tennessee has to hold off several interesting coaches in this battle; Colorado's Deion Sanders is an NFL legend and one of the biggest rising stars in coaching. Nebraska recently hired ex-Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who flamed out in the NFL but has a deep, impressive college resume.

Michigan's Jim Harbaugh seems to always be in a standoff with the university, but you can never count out the Wolverines. Tennessee being the only SEC squad on Goree's list is significant; though he lives in Cleveland, Tennessee, he only has five SEC offers.

His evaluation is a testament to Tennessee's coaching staff. Goree is an under-the-radar prospect that big schools have just recently caught on to in recent months. The fact that the Volunteers have been developing a relationship with him since the summer could ultimately prove huge in the long term.
