New Red Raiders Head Coach Joey McGuire Shows Early Recruiting Success
The Texas Tech Red Raiders might be the biggest surprise of the 2023 recruiting cycle so far. With 20 commits already, new coach Joey McGuire has shown early signs of success off the field, which Red Raiders fans hope equates to success on the field.
Texas Tech didn't finish last in the Big 12 last season, thanks, in part, to Kansas' 2-10 overall record, and 1-8 Big 12 record. But the Red Raiders' 3-6 conference record and 7-6 overall record stand on their own as a measure of mediocrity for a proud program.

Enter McGuire. SI-99's John Garcia discussed McGuire's hire back in November:
A longtime Texas High School football coach, McGuire made his mark at Cedar Hill High School, where he led the Longhorns to three state championships. The high marks included back-to-back title runs in 2013 and 2014 to go along with nine bi-district titles. He was inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor just last year.
The Cedar Hill legacy has already paid off as Tech picked up three football commitments within hours of the McGuire hire becoming official...
McGuire's forte is apparently recruiting. He already has pledges from 20 players, the most in the nation, and all but one are from the Lone Star State.

Among those commitments is elite edge rusher Isaiah Crawford. The Post, Texas native is 6-4, 210-pounds, and is expected to develop into a bigger and quicker version of himself. Brendan Jordan, a 6-0, 185-pound safety from Mansfield, Texas is expected to contribute almost immediately. Anquan Willis is listed as an athlete but was recruited as a linebacker. At 6-0, 220-pounds, he's also able to play running back.
McGuire has hit the ground running since inking the deal with Tech to become the head coach, and already had three commits as soon as his introductory press conference ended.
This is an impressive turnaround from last season already for Texas Tech, whose last few recruiting classes were less than stellar.
