Red Raiders Week 12 vs. Iowa State Cyclones: Staff Predictions
Texas Tech will travel to the Iowa State Cyclones in Big 12 action at 6 p.m. Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa.
The Red Raiders (5-5, 3-4 in Big 12) are coming off a 43-28 win over Kansas on Saturday, a win that puts them one victory away from being bowl eligible in coach Joey McGuire’s first season in Lubbock.
The Cyclones (4-6, 1-6) are pinned against the wall when it comes to bowl eligibility. The Cyclones need to win both remaining games and the finale is against TCU in Fort Worth on Thanksgiving weekend.
Here are the predictions for Saturday's game from the Red Raider Review staff.
Collier Logan, Staff Writer: Iowa State has been hapless in 2022, but Tech is starting to come on strong. Behind senior quarterback Tyler Shough, the Red Raiders should get their first road win of the year in Week 12. Texas Tech 38, Iowa State 20
Zack Dimmitt, Staff Writer: Iowa State has had enough heartbreaking losses in Big 12 play this season. I think the Cyclones finally push through and get one game closer to salvaging a lost season with bowl eligibility. Iowa State 24, Texas Tech 22
Adam Glick, Staff Writer: Both teams really need a win. The Red Raiders are one win away from bowl eligibility in Joey McGuire's first season. Iowa State on the other hand continues to lose one-score games in the Big 12. I like the Cyclones to find a way to win a low-scoring game this weekend. They also still have a shot at a bowl by winning out. They do so this weekend behind the best defense in the conference. Iowa State 24, Texas Tech 21
Matthew Postins, Staff Writer: If I’m Texas Tech, I don’t want to rely on having to beat Oklahoma next week to get to a bowl game. Get it done on Saturday against Iowa State. Those 15 extra practices will be valuable. Coach Joey McGuire should stick with Tyler Shough at this point. Tech eases away in this one. Texas Tech 33, Iowa State 23
Cole Thompson, Staff Writer: Playing in Ames is tricky, especially in the frigid conditions of November. But while the Cyclones' defense has been able to contain offenses from making a splash, their offense is ice cold. Iowa State has yet to score more than 24 points once this season. That won't happen on Saturday, either. Texas Tech 30, Iowa State 14
Connor Zimmerlee, Staff Writer: Texas Tech is one win away from bowl eligibility, while a win for Iowa State keeps its slim odds of making a bowl game alive. If this game was in Lubbock I would pick Texas Tech to run away with this one, but it being in Ames does make things interesting. I do think Texas Tech wins to get bowl eligibility, but don't be surprised if Iowa State picks up the home victory. Texas Tech 28, Iowa State 27
