Longhorns Headed to Baton Rouge in Latest NCAA Tournament Projection
We are three days out from the Texas Longhorns starting their season in Arlington against Arkansas in the College Baseball Showdown.
The Longhorns enter the 2023 season looking to earn their 39th College World Series appearance, which would break their own record of 38 appearances from just last season.
Doing so, though, will be much easier said than done with the sheer number of talent lost. Gone are middle of the lineup anchors in Ivan Melendez and Murphy Stehly, as well as Trey Faltine and Skyler Messinger.
Simply put, Texas lost a lot of offensive production. However, they're still considered by many an NCAA Tournament team. In D1Baseball's preseason Field of 64 projections, they have the Longhorns as a No. 2 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional.
Joining Texas and LSU in the regional would be the No. 3 seed Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and the No. 4 seed Alabama State Hornets.
D1Baseball has the Tigers as the No. 1 national seed, which would pair the Baton Rouge Regional winner with the winner of the No. 16 national seed Los Angeles Regional.
The Los Angeles Regional is comprised of the No. 1 UCLA Bruins, No. 2 Texas Tech Red Raiders, No. 3 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and No. 4 UNLV Runnin' Rebels.
Texas faces LSU in a preview of this potential regional on Feb. 28, when the No. 1 team makes its way to Austin for a highly anticipated midweek game.
