Longhorns Look to Continue Winning Against North Dakota State

The Longhorns are back in action as they continue their home-stand with a midweek series against the Bison.

After a rather rocky start to their season, the Texas Longhorns have been on an absolute tear to start their 14-game home stand.

Following a disappointing series loss to the Cal State Fullerton Titans that saw the Longhorns drop three games below .500 to 4-7, it was evident a corner needed to be turned and fast. Well, it appears safe to say that corner has been turned for the time being.

Since that series loss they have reeled off five straight wins to start their home stand, including a dominant sweep of Manhattan, with the bats and pitching staff finally clicking in the same game consistently.

Now, though, they will look to a two-game midweek series against the North Dakota State Bison. While on paper this appears to be an easier matchup, there is no reason the Longhorns should overlook the Bison.

A look at North Dakota State's season so far

It is safe to say that it is has not been an ideal start to the 2023 season for North Dakota State. The Bison started their season 0-3 as well, won their first game and now enter the midweek series against Texas on a 11-game losing streak.

North Dakota State by the numbers

Record: 1-14

Runs scored: 82

Runs allowed: 131

Team Avg.: .246

Team ERA: 7.80

North Dakota State wins this series if...

It can get to the Longhorns bullpen early and often. The Longhorns have five games this week, and as such they will want to avoid taxing their bullpen arms as much as they can. If the Bison can knock out the Longhorn starters early, they could put themselves in a position for the upset.

Texas wins this series if...

It keeps doing what its been doing during the five-game winning streak. The offense is clicking on all cylinders while the pitching staff has continued to be lights out. On paper, this is a series the Longhorns should have no issue sweeping. That being said, if they aren't careful and look past the Bison, well, anything could happen then.
