4-Star Aeryn Hamptons Flips From Texas, Will Sign With Alabama
AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns have lost one of the best athletes in 2024 to their talented recruiting class, with Daingerfield (Texas) receiver/athlete Aeryn "Bubba" Hampton flipping and signing with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday.
This is not the first time Hampton has changed his mind either.
Hampton originally committed to the Horns on Valentine's Day of 2022, before de-committing in November of 2022. Hampton then re-committed to the Longhorns in July of this year, calling the Longhorns his 'dream school.'
“Texas has always been my dream school," he told On3. “Just my relationship with the coaching staff and the plan that they have for me,” Hampton said. “It feels like it is the best decision.”
Now, he has changed his mind once again, choosing the Tide, who have long been the Horns' main competition for Hampton's signature.
Hampton has done a little bit of everything during his high school career, as it'll be hard to find anyone posting these kinds of all-around numbers.
Per 247Sports' stats for Hampton, he totaled 99 catches for 2,190 yards and 25 touchdowns over his sophomore and junior campaigns. He's also posted 23 carries for 327 yards and seven touchdowns.
Per max preps, Hampton's senior campaign was wildly productive as well, with the versatile prospect completing 17 of 36 passes for 269 yards, rushing 41 times for 299 yards and three scores, and catching 37 passes for 841 yards and six more touchdowns
But that's just on offense.

On defense, Hampton tallied 148 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 11 pass breakups, and an incredible 10 pick-sixes on 18 total interceptions in his first two seasons. To add insult to injury for the opposing team, he's also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
This season, he continued that production defensively as well, adding 93 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a sack.
While stats don't always tell the story, Hampton's case might be an exception. He has proven he can find the end zone in all three phases.
Unfortunately for Texas, that versatility will now be heading to Bryant-Denny Stadium, instead of DKR.
