ARLINGTON - Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby took the stage to kick off Big 12 Media Days in Arlington on Monday with some ammunition for fans of the conference's teams.

He was quick to point out that six of seven Big 12 teams held their bowl opponents under their season scoring averages.

""Contrary to popular belief, there are some kids who can tackle in the Big 12," Bowlsby said.

Bowlsby would add that he wasn't worried about the conference's reputation when it comes to the College Football Playoff committee, which he said was "meticulous in the way they go about their work".

He believes much of the poor national perception of the conferences defenses comes from the media an commentators as well as the high-powered offenses that occupy the conference.

With the best bowl record among Power Five conferences over the past three years there's some evidence to back up Bolwsby's Monday morning hot take.
