Report: Texas Safeties Jerrin Thompson and Kitan Crawford Enter NCAA Transfer Portal - Tracker

The NCAA Transfer Portal is in full swing, and we have all the latest news on the Texas Longhorns here:
In this story:

JAN 5 THOMPSON & CRAWFORD GONE According to reports from Inside Texas, Longhorns safeties Jerrin Thompson and Kitan Crawford have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after four years each with the program

Thompson had 38 tackles, seven passes defended and three interceptions this season, taking one of those picks back for a touchdown.

As a senior, Crawford had 24 total tackles and one tackle for loss, with an interception in the Big 12 Championship game.

These decisions hardly come as a surprise for the Longhorns with their playing time and production decreasing throughout the year in favor of freshman Derek Williams and Michael Taaffe.

And with Xavier Filsaime and Andrew Mukuba also on their way to Austin, both of their roles were likely set to decrease even more.

Third-string QB Charles Wright, also entered the portal on Friday.

JAN 5 CARTER TO PORTAL The Texas Longhorns are set to lose their third defensive lineman this week, with defensive tackle Trill Carter planning to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per reports from Inside Texas.

In his first season with the Horns after transferring from Minnesota, Carter had nine tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.

The Longhorns also lost T'Vondre Sweat to the NFL/graduation, with Byron Murphy also declaring for the draft on Thursday.

Texas did some good news on their defensive front this week, with Alfred Collins electing to stay in school for another season thanks to a waiver.

DEC 19 KRISTOPHER ROSS ENTERS PORTAL Texas Longhorns defensive lineman Kristopher Ross has entered the transfer portal, per reports Tuesday from On3.

Ross reportedly left the team in late October and his player profile was removed from the Texas Athletics website.

He was a member of Texas' 2022 recruiting class out of North Shore (Houston), and posted just one total tackle this season. Ross had two tackles last season, both of which came in the season-opening win over Louisiana-Monroe.

Ross was carted off in the 31-10 win over the Wyoming Cowboys on Sept. 16 after suffering an elbow injury and didn't appear in a game after that.

DEC 15 MAALIK MURPHY TAKING VISITS After announcing on Wednesday that he's entering the portal, Texas Longhorns transfer quarterback Maalik Murphy is reportedly already setting some official visits.

Per reports from 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, Murphy is taking visits to Duke, Oregon State and Baylor.

He's visiting the Blue Devils today (Friday) and will then head back to Texas to see the Bears in Waco on Saturday followed by a cross-country trip to Corvallis on Sunday.

Murphy finished his Texas career 2-0 as a starter while going 40 of 71 passing for 477 yards, three touchdowns and three picks.

DEC 14 BARON TO ATX? According to reports from On3, the Texas Longhorns are a team to watch for talented Tennessee transfer defensive lineman, Tyler Baron.

Per the report, Baron will visit the Longhorns on Saturday ahead of the Early Signing Period.

Baron spent four years with the Volunteers, racking up 13.5 sacks and 102 tackles from his edge position.

Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss are also considered in the running for Baron, who will also visit Ole Miss on Thursday.

DEC 12 BURKS TO OU One of the Texas Longhorns' top targets in the transfer portal is now heading to an arch-rival.

Former Purdue wide receiver transfer, Deion Burks, who was set to visit the Longhorns this week, committed to the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday, he announced on Twitter.

Burks has 47 catches for 629 yards and seven touchdowns with the Boilermakers in 2023.

DEC 10 BURKS VISITING According to a report from 247Sports, the Texas Longhorns are set to receive a visit from star Purdue transfer wide receiver, Deion Burks.

According to the report, the dates for the visit are still being determined, but he will make his way to Austin at some point during the week. Burks will also visit the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman next weekend.

One of the top receivers in the Big Ten while catching passes from former Longhorn Hudson Card Burks has 47 catches for 629 yards and seven touchdowns with the Boilermakers in 2023.

DEC 8 MUKUBA COMING TO ATX According to reports from On3, former Clemson Tigers safety Andrew Mukuba has set multiple visits after entering the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this week.

And one of those visits is to the Texas Longhorns in Austin.

Mukuba, an Austin native, is the No. 1 ranked safety in the portal and was a key part of a Clemson that ranked No. 24 in the nation in scoring defense, No. 5 in pass defense, No. 27 in rush defense, and No. 7 in total defense.

Mukuba ranked third on that defense in tackles with 42, to go along with two tackles for loss, and six pass breakups.

Over the last three seasons, Mukuba has played in 35 games, making 143 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack one interception, and 16 PBUs.

He has also scheduled visits to Ole Miss, Oregon, USC and Oklahoma - where his former defensive coordinator and lead recruiter, Brent Venables, is the head coach.

DEC 8 NEYOR TO PORTAL Per reports from On3, Texas Longhorns reserve wideout Isaiah Neyor has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Neyor was once a highly-anticipated addition to the Longhorns roster after transferring from Wyoming, but after injuries derailed his first season in Austin, he was never able to find time in the receiver rotation.

DEC 7 TREY MOORE TO TEXAS? The Texas Longhorns have reportedly already been in contact with some elite receivers in the transfer portal, but what about on defense?

There's been no reported contact just yet, but the Texas-sized buzz surrounding UTSA EDGE transfer Trey Moore has been something to watch after he entered the portal Tuesday. Now, recruiting analysts are making their crystal ball predictions, which is giving some life to the speculation of Moore joining Texas.

247 Sports recruiting analysts Jordan Scruggs and Hank South both submitted their official predictions for Moore on Thursday, saying that Texas will be his portal destination after a incredible individual season with the Roadrunners.

Moore posted 14 sacks during the regular season, the third-most in FBS. In 2022, he had eight sacks and two forced fumbles.

Should these predictions come true, Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian would be getting one of the country's most promising pass-rushers.

DEC 7 TURNER-GOODEN TO PORTAL Texas Longhorns safety Larry Turner-Gooden intends to enter the transfer portal, per reports Thursday from On3.

A member of the 2022 recruiting class, Turner-Gooden appeared in four games last season, including in the Alamo Bowl against Washington. He posted two total tackles last year.

He will have three years of eligibility left.

DEC 7 CAIN TO PORTAL Per a report from On3, Texas Longhorns wide receiver Casey Cain is set to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Cain, who was expected to be a big part of the offense in 2022, never caught on with the Horns in his two seasons, making just nine catches over that time. In 2023, he had just one catch for 13 yards.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

DEC 6 ALLEN OUT Per a report from Inside Texas' Joe Cook, Texas Longhorns safety BJ Allen has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

A former 4-star member of the 2022 class, Allen finished his Texas playing in just two games.

He will have at least three years of eligibility remaining.

DEC 6 GORAM-WELCH TO PORTAL Per an announcement on Twitter, Longhorns offensive lineman Sawyer Goram-Welch will enter the NCAA Transfer portal as a grad transfer.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"My four years here at UT is something I will always remember for the rest of my life," he said in a statement. "With all the brothers I've gained, all the coaches I've had, with all the lessons I've learned, the experiences I have experienced, and from seeing this team grow into what it is today, it all means so much to me, but with that being said, my time here must come to and end."

"While I will finish the season with my brothers, I am graduating this December and entering my name into the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility."

DEC 4 LONGHORNS GOING AFTER NOLEN? According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, the Texas Longhorns are expected to 'take a swing' at Texas A&M Aggies defensive lineman transfer, Walter Nolen.

Nolen, who was at one time the No. 1 recruit in the nation, entered the transfer portal on Sunday night following the firing of Jimbo Fisher, and the recent hiring of Mike Elko in College Station.

In 12 games, Nolen totaled 37 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks. His ability to close gaps helped A&M feature one of the top FBS run defenses and added a second element to the pass rush up the middle.

Nolen, a native of Powell, Tenn., committed to A&M over other top SEC programs, including Florida, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. He was the highest-rated recruit to sign with A&M since 2000, and was the headline addition to the Aggies' No. 1 recruiting class in 2022.

Nolen will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next school.

This season, Oghoufo had 54 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

With the talent already on the 40 Acres of Barryn Sorrell and Alfred Collins, as well as the emerging talent of Justice Finkley, Zac Swanson, Ethan Burke, Jaray Bledsoe, Kristopher Ross, Aaron Bryant and J'Mond Tapp, the Longhorns will still have a solid group of pass rushers in 2023.

Incoming freshmen Colton Vasek, Billy Walton, Tasuili Akana, and the potentially positionally versatile Derion Gullette, could also help fill the void left by Oghoufo.

JAN 12 IBRAHEEM OUT

Texas Longhorns defensive back Ishmael Ibraheem has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Ibraheem was once a member of the 2021 SI99, and one of the Longhorns' top recruits.

However, his career was marred by legal troubles and injury issues, and he was never able to catch on in Austin.

He was suspended from the program indefinitely in September following an arrest.

JAN 8 OMIERE TO ARIZONA STATE

Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Troy Omiere has found a new home via the NCAA Transfer Portal, committing to the Arizona State Sun Devils on Sunday.

Despite his immense talent, Omiere never quite caught on with the Longhorns due to injuries.

Top Texas edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo reportedly entered the transfer portal on Thursday as a graduate transfer.

One of the top pass rushers on the roster, Oghoufo originally transferred to Texas from Notre Dame, making an immediate impact in 2021.

JAN 4 RB JAYDON BLUE TRANSFERRING?

The Texas Longhorns are set to lose another body from their running back room, as freshman Jaydon Blue will be entering the transfer portal, per reports Wednesday.

However, Blue has since tweeted that he is 'locked in'.

Blue, who was one of the biggest names in Texas' 2022 recruiting class, fell to the fifth option on the depth chart this season. He had 15 carries for 33 yards in eight games.

With Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson leaving the program to pursue NFL aspirations, Blue was set to see more work next season.

Whether or not Blue will indeed stay has yet to be determined.
