Former Four-Star Longhorns Signee D'antre Robinson Commits to Florida

The Texas Longhorns have lost a member of their 2024 recruiting class that ranks as the No. 2 class in the country.

College football truly is the sport that has you on your toes at all times, as in the midst of Texas making major transfer portal additions they ended up losing a recruit from their 2024 recruiting class.

Heading into the week, four-star defensive tackle D'antre Robinson out of Orlando, Florida was expected to ask Texas to release him from his National Letter of Intent.

On Tuesday, those were confirmed with 247Sports reporting that Robinson has indeed been released from his commitment to the University.

However, it appears that Robinson will be staying in the SEC.

Texas commit D'Antre Robinson with Bo Davis

LonghornsCountry.com reported earlier this week that the top contender to reel in Robinson is the Florida Gators, who were heavy competitors for his signature down the stretch until Robinson ultimately decided to ink with Texas.

On Friday, Robinson officially committed to the Gators, citing the team as his 'dream school.'

“Florida has been my dream school and some unexpected things happened at Texas so I just wanted to be closer with my family," Robinson told On3. "It will be way easier for my family to come see me play and anything else they would like to do. I’m a momma’s boy and I’ll admit, being closer to ma dukes feels great. My big sister lives in Texas so I would’ve had some form of family there if I was still going. I am a family’s boy and being in my state feels so much better and I am very proud and happy with the decision I have made.”

Losing Davis is certainly a blow - one that the Longhorns knew could possibly hurt them, and this is the first example.

Under Davis' tutelage, both T'Vondre Sweat and Bryon Muprhy II emerged as two of the best defensive tackles in the country, and Texas as a whole had one of the best run defenses in the country as well.

While losing Robinson hurts, the Longhorns did bring in three other defensive linemen in their class, and will also have names like Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton ready to slide into the starting roles.

Now, however, they will have to face off against Robinson on a regular basis, as they begin play in the SEC, with Robinson and the Gators coming to Austin on Nov. 9.
