Former Texas QB Maalik Murphy To Transfer To Duke

The Former Texas Longhorn quarterback opted to transfer following reports that both Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning would be returning in 2024.

On Friday Night, former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy announced where he will be finishing out his career following his decision to enter his name into the transfer portal.

The choice seemed quite difficult for Murphy who will miss out on Texas' College Football Playoff run. A feat that the Longhorns wouldn't have been able to have accomplished had Murphy not stepped in and led the team to victory against BYU and Kansas State when Quinn Ewers was out with an injury. However, in order to have time to figure out where the best place for him was, it was a move that needed to be made.

According to ESPN, Murphy will be transferring to Duke where he will be the first quarterback for new head coach Manny Diaz.

Murphy chose Duke over programs such as Baylor, South Carolina, and Oregon State. A decision that many were expecting from the moment he entered his name into the portal, as Duke automatically became a team to look out for.

As for Baylor, they ended up taking in Toledo transfer DeQuan Finn.

For Murphy, the big-armed quarterback finished this season with 477 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. His best game was his showing against BYU when he threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns to just one pick.

In Murphy, Duke is getting a young quarterback in terms of experience who can absolutely sling the ball all over the yard, and simply just didn't have an opportunity at Texas due to the timing of his arrival. He was however a beloved player by fans, and will quickly grow on the Blue Devil fan base.
