Longhorns Among 247’s ‘Most Lethal’ 2023 Rosters

The Longhorns enter 2023 with one of college football's best rosters, with a mix of returning talent and elite recruits.
In this story:

As the Texas Longhorns prepare for year three under coach Steve Sarkisian, they do so with arguably the best roster of his tenure.

After an 8-5 season in year two, a marked improvement from Sarkisian's inaugural 5-7 showing, things are continuing to trend upwards in Austin. Now, with plenty of returning talent paired with an elite 2023 recruiting class, the Longhorns are tied for fifth in 247Sports' 12 most lethal rosters.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers enters his second season as a Longhorn and if his performance in the Alamo Bowl is any indication he's poised for a breakout year.

Ewers has his fair share of weapons to work with, too, from receivers Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington to tight Ja'Tavion Sanders. Add in a healthy Isaiah Neyor and transfer portal addition Adonai Mitchell from Georgia, and the Texas offense could be one of the best in college football.

Defensively, the return of standout linebacker Jaylan Ford was a huge win for Texas. Ford, as well as other returners and a recruiting class headlined by star linebacker Anthony Hill, could elevate the Longhorns' defense yet again.

On paper, the Longhorns' talent is not hurting for talent on either side of the ball. Of course, though, games aren't played on paper. The talent is there for Texas, now all that's left is to go out and win.
