Longhorns Included In Greatest College Football Programs In History
If you only started following college football somewhat closely in the last decade or so, your perception of who the elite teams are is likely far different than an older fan.
A key example of this is how one views the Texas Longhorns - one of college football's blue bloods that have found themselves in a seemingly decade stretch of inconsistency.
However, even with their recent struggles, the Longhorns are still historically one of college football's premier programs.
A 247Sports Twitter graphic listed the top 25 all-time programs, based on total points from AP Poll finishes since its inception in 1936. In this ranking, the Longhorns find themselves tied for seventh overall with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Much like the Cornhuskers, it can be easy to forget the past success and dominance of the Longhorns if only looking at their recent history.
Doing that, though, would ignore Texas' four national championships, 32 conference titles and 936 wins which puts them fifth all-time and just behind Notre Dame who has 938.
Not only do the Longhorns have four official national championships, but they don't claim five potential national titles that would make their resume even stronger.
The Longhorns aren't at the level they were once were quite yet under Steve Sarkisian, but the talent is undoubtedly there. Despite the recent lack of success, though, they are still undeniably one of college football's blue bloods.
