Texas NFL Combine Preview: 11 Longhorns Hope To Impress in Indianapolis
The Texas Longhorns look poised to have their best showing in the NFL Draft in recent memory, with 15 players expected to either be drafted or sign undrafted free-agent contracts.
In fact, most recent mock drafts have the Longhorns with six or more players going in the first three rounds.
And now, the future NFL Longhorns have another accolade to add to their resumés with 11 players set to take part in the NFL combine this week.
Those 11 players are as follows: Running backs Jonathon Brooks and Keilan Robinson, receivers Jordan Whittington, Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell, tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, offensive lineman Christian Jones, defensive linemen T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy, linebacker Jaylan Ford, and defensive back Ryan Watts.
For context, the Longhorns have had 17 total players invited to the combine in the previous four years, with five in 2023, two in 2022, six in 2021, and four in 2020.
The event will run from Sunday to Monday, March 4 in Indianapolis.
Five Longhorns Projected To Go In First Two Rounds Of NFL Draft
Some Horns, such as Murphy, Mitchell, Worthy, Sweat and Sanders are already in great shape heading into Lucas Oil Stadium, having been consensus projections as either first and/or second-round picks.
In other words, as they as they take care of business, they should be just fine come draft time.
However, when it comes to Jones, Ford, Watts, Robinson, and Whittington, a top-notch performance will be key for them in order to secure the best draft position possible.
Report: Longhorns RB Jonathon Brooks Potential Option For Dallas Cowboys
Meanwhile, as for Brooks, things are a bit more up in the air thanks to his torn ACL - which in theory, could scare some teams away. Brooks will need to impress in the interview portion of the combine to help quell those concerns.
That said, according to reports, Brooks' recovery has gone better than expected, and he has been connected with multiple teams already, including the Dallas Cowboys.
Not only that but even with the injury, he is considered the top running back in the entire class, which bodes well for his future.
