'Two Legends One Handshake': Vince Young And Nick Saban Meet After Texas Win
Lost in the excitement and the thought that Texas may be as close as they ever have been to returning to their former glory, Longhorn legend and former quarterback Vince Young showed Nick Saban the ultimate level of respect.
While players, coaches, media members, and the other hundreds of random individuals on the field were clearing off following Texas' upset victory over No. 3 Alabama, Young made sure to find Saban after the game. Not to gloat, not get a picture or chat with the head coach who just lost for the first time at home in 21 games, but to shake his hand after a hard fought game.
The win for Texas boosted them up in the rankings going up from No. 11 to No. 4 in the country, which is the first time they've been ranked in the top five since 2010. For Alabama, it leaves a bitter taste in their mouth as they are still unsure of their quarterback situation and are looking as fragile as they ever had under Saban.
It also helps Texas take a much-need step in the right direction to the success that was pioneered by Young himself.
Young starred at Texas from 2002-2005, leading the Longhorns to a BCS national title over USC in what was his last season. His name is still etched throughout their record bools, and after his days as a Longhorn he was taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.
His pro career was a rollercoaster, but he has since taken on a new role as in 2021 he was hired by Texas as a special assistant in the athletic department.
