Steve Sarkisian 'Fired Up' About Texas Longhorns Culture

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is fired up about his team's culture.
In this story:

While wins and losses are ultimately what will keep a coach employed or not, it is the culture they establish that will determine how many games they win.

Something Texas has learned the hard way in years past as they have cycled through a couple of different coaches before landing on Steve Sarkisian.

The former playcaller at Alabama is in year three in Austin, and the Longhorns are firing on all cylinders this season. Texas currently ranks as the No. 7 team in the country and is trending upward even after the injury to star quarterback Quinn Ewers.

The former five-star hurt his shoulder last weekend in Texas' 31-24 win over Houston. A win that Sarkisian raved about, as he felt it was the perfect representation of the new culture that he and the team have built.

"I'm fired up about our culture," Sarkisian said. "If there's one thing on our team right now that I lean into more than anything, it's our culture. I said it a week ago, I feel like that win at Houston was a culture win."

He also raved about how connected this team is, and how supportive they are of one another while also touching on how mature this team is.

"I love this team because of their connectivity, their love for one another," Sarkisian said. "I love the vulnerability and the honesty of our team that we have, that we can have real conversations."

The Longhorns and their culture will be tested this weekend against a frisky BYU team in what will be Maalik Murphy's first career start behind center. According to ESPN, the Longhorns are favored by 19 points.
