Takeaways From Texas Longhorns Versus TCU Horned Frogs Matchup
What appeared as a locked-in win against the TCU Horned Frogs when the Texas Longhorns were leading by 20 points in the third quarter ended up being a nail-biter.
However, with a late pass play by Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers that gave the Longhorns a first down and the ability to run out the clock, the Horns secured a 29-26 win.
Here are the takeaways from the Longhorns' victory over the Horned Frogs:
Ewers' comeback game
Ewers made his first appearance on the field against TCU on Saturday since he was placed on the injured list with a sprained shoulder a few weeks ago against the Houston Cougars.
At the end of the matchup, Ewers completed 22 of his 33 pass attempts for a total of 317 yards. On top of that, he recorded one touchdown and one interception.
Although Ewers had a rocky start to the game, he was able to step up to the plate when it mattered most.
Running back Jonathon Brooks injury
Brooks had a total of 21 carries for 104 yards, two touchdowns, and three catches for 74 yards until he was taken off the field due to an injury in the fourth quarter of the game.
After running for seven yards and hitting the first down marker, a TCU defender was caught up on Brooks' leg. He signaled to be taken out of the game and crawled to the sidelines.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made comments on Brooks post-game, stating that he would be evaluated in Austin and updates would be released this Monday.
Consistent connection with receiver Xavier Worthy
Worthy recorded season highs in catches and receiving yardage on Saturday. Off of 13 catches against the Horned Frogs, Worthy recorded 137 yards.
While Ewers was on the sidelines with an injury, Worthy's most memorable plays were from punt returns, so there is no question that Worthy enjoyed his quarterback's comeback.
