Texas football incoming freshman Jake Smith earned one last high school honor before turning his attention to his college career when he received the Gatorade National High School Football Player of the Year Award. 

Smith finished second overall for Gatorade Athlete of the Year after a stellar senior season at Notre Dame Prep. in Arizona. 

He comes to Texas ranked as the No. 8 wide  receiver in the country and the No. 49 overall player according to 247 sports. 

Smith will challenge for immediate playing time both in the slot and potentially in the return game depending on how things pan out.
