Texas Longhorns LB Anthony Hill Says Win vs. Alabama 'Set The Standard' For Him
AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns used last season's big Week 2 win at Alabama as a springboard all the way to the College Football Playoff, but the 34-24 upset in Tuscaloosa also served as a stage for Anthony Hill to show the country what he's all about.
The Texas linebacker entered his freshman year last season with tons of hype as a five-star recruit and didn't disappoint agaisnt Alabama. Hill finished with six total tackles and two sacks, both of which came on third downs in the second half. The final sack of Jalen Milroe was the last time the Tide offense was on the field, as the Longhorns ran out the final 7:14 of clock to win the game.
Hill admitted last week that the game didn't necessarily make him feel more confident than he already was, but that it certainly helped show fans what they should expect from him on a consistent basis.
"I was already a pretty confident person and I feel like I just showed my ability, just them being able to put me out there in certain situations when I was ready for it and just me being able to execute. I feel like it was important for the rest of the season cause I feel like it set the standard.”
Hill ended the 2023 season having played in all 14 games while tallying 67 total tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and two passes defended. All but one of Hill's five sacks came on big stages. The aforementioned two sacks vs. Alabama was followed up by QB takedowns against Oklahoma in Dallas and the Big 12 title game vs. Oklahoma State.
He and the 2024 Longhorns will play in front of fans for the first time next week when the Orange-White Spring Game kicks off on Saturday, April 20 at DKR.
