AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns are going to have a new look offense in 2024, following the departure of receivers Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittington, tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, and running back Jonathon Brooks.

There have been some high profile names come in to replace those losses, including Alabama transfers Isaiah Bond and Amari Niblack. There are is also returning talent like Johntay Cook, Jaydon Blue and Cedric Baxter that will each have high expectations.

However, there is one player returning in 2024 who may have been overlooked by the masses heading into spring camp - running back Quintrevion 'Tre' Wisner.

“Tre has been really impressive this spring," Sarkisian said Monday. "I think that started for him the second half of last season — his role on special teams really grew and improved. He made plays and he had a couple of really big tackles as the year went on for us on teams. I think he got some confidence.”

As Sarkisian mentioned, Wisner first made his presence known on special teams. However, he also showed promise running the football, carrying 12 times for 73 yards and a score in limited opportunities.

That said, it appears that in addition to his special teams role, Wisner has also taken his skills a step forward this spring, which will make it very hard for Sarkisian to keep him off of the field in 2024.

“The one thing about Tre, he is right there at the top of hardest workers on our team," Sarkisian said. "I mean, that guy goes for it every day, every rep, and it’s paying dividends for him. He’s been a really good runner, he’s catching the ball out of the backfield, he’s been great on (special) teams. I think his understanding schematically of what we’re doing is growing and so I do foresee him having a role with us in the fall.”

Will that role be similar to that of Keilan Robinson last season? As of now, it is too soon to tell.

That said, based on the way Sarkisian describes his skill set, Wisner filling in the role left by Robinson next fall would make an awful lot of sense.
