Texas Flips Five-Star Florida Safety Xavier Filsaime
After a big visit weekend, the Texas Longhorns added multiple critical pieces to the 2024 roster, including transfers Andrew Mukuba and Matthew Golden.
That continued on Monday afternoon, with flipping 2023 five-star McKinney (TX) safety Xavier Filsaime from the Florida Gators.
“Knowing my future would be stable and the opportunities outside of football," Filsaime told On3. "Probably one of my hardest decisions ever because I have lots of love for everyone over there.”
Filsaime, who ranks as the No. 2 safety in the country, the No. 33 player nationally, and the No. 7 player in Texas per the On3 industry ranking, become the fourth five-star recruit to commit to Texas, joining edge Colin Simmons, offensive tackle Brandon Baker and wide receiver Ryan Wingo.
He is also the second safety commit to the Horns in the class alongside Jordon Johnson-Rubell.
With the addition of Filsaime to the class, the Longhorns should likely to surge past Florida and Florida State into the top three of the national team recruiting rankings.

It also gives them a chance to finish with their third-straight top-five class, and their second-straight class in the top three. The Longhorns will also have an outside shot at ascending all the way to No. 1, should things go their way for the rest of the period.
A possible commitment could not come at a better time for the Longhorns either, with Texas already losing B.J. Allen, Larry Turner Gooden, and Jalen Catalon to the transfer portal, as well as Kitan Crawford, and Jerrin Thompson to graduation/the NFL Draft.
That said, the hoped-for addition of Filsaime would fill a major positional need for their 2024 entry into the SEC.
