Longhorns Slotted In The Top 10 After Spring Ball By On3

The Texas Longhorns have one 10-win season since 2010.
In this story:

The Texas Longhorns have the quarterback and the supporting cast, but can they put it all together?

It feels like now or never in Austin before the Longhorns join the Southeastern Conference as the road to conference and national titles for Texas will only get steeper. On3's Jesse Simonton, which already ranked the Horns atop the Big 12 after spring ball, ranked the boys in burnt orange No. 9 in the country.

Texas trails Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, USC, Penn State, and Florida State.

"Can Steve Sarkisian finally win 10 games? Can Texas stop squandering second-half leads? Will the Longhorns write their Big 12 Swan song and win the league in their final season in the conference? They should," Simonton wrote. "Texas is loaded, returning of the better offensive lines, tight ends, and receiver rooms in the country, plus Sarkisian likes the development he’s seen from quarterback Quinn Ewers this offseason. They bring back six starters on defense, too, led by All-American linebacker Jaylan Ford."

Texas has Quinn Ewers entering year two in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy with weapons in receivers Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, and Ja'Tavion Sanders to throw to behind all five starters returning on the offensive line.

If the Texas defense can hold its weight, it could make some noise and find themselves playing on Jan. 8, 2024, at NRG Stadium.
