The Texas Longhorns have one of the best tight ends in the country on the roster in Ja'Tavion Sanders, but they just snagged one in the class of 2024.

Three-star tight end Jordan Washington announced his commitment to Texas Tuesday, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett. Washington chose the Longhorns over in-state rivals Texas A&M and UTSA and Arizona State.

"I would say my relationship with coach Banks is like a best friend,” Washington told On3. “Like we both clicked. I picked up on what he was trying to say and he did the same with me. He plans on developing me into a great tight end, and maybe the best in college football.”

The Houston native is the No. 29 tight end and the No. 84 player in the Lone Star State, according to 247Sports Composite.

Washington took his official visit to the Forty Acres June 16 and was impressed by the Longhorns' pitch, as he became Texas' 12th commit in the 2024 cycle. He is the first pledge since Texas' huge day on the trail in which it picked up commitments from wide receiver Parker Livingstone, defensive lineman Alex January and safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell.

247Sports' Gabe Brooks compared Washington to Los Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett.

"Dangerous vertical threat thanks to size and athleticism. Capable of winning contested throws in traffic. Basketball athleticism manifests in those scenarios," Brooks wrote. "Functionally stronger than expected in run-after-catch situations. Violent gait that belies big-play juice. Tracks the deep ball well. Shows an understanding of how to leak to space underneath."
