Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Receives Major Contract Bonuses
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian did not just win the Big 12 Championship against Oklahoma State or claim a spot in the College Football Playoffs, Sarkisian has earned himself a huge contract bonus.
Without bonuses, Sarkisian has an annual salary of about 5.6 million dollars per year. However, by both making it to the Big 12 Championship matchup and coming out with a win, Texas' head coach has received an additional 300,000 dollars in bonuses.
200,000 dollars were granted to Sarkisian by securing the Big 12 Conference Title and an extra 100,000 was given to him by reaching the College Football Playoffs.
The No. 3 Longhorns will match up against No. 2 Washington at the beginning of January.
On Sunday, it was announced that the Longhorns had jumped from the No. 7 ranking to No. 3 nationally.
If the Longhorns keep winning, more money and bonuses will be in the books for Sarkisian.
If the Longhorns come out with a victory against Washington at the conclusion of the Sugar Bowl on the first day of January, it is possible that Sarkisian would receive an extra 525,000 dollars on top of reaching the National Championship and potentially being named Big 12 Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year.
Winning the Sugar Bowl comes out to about an additional 125,000 dollars for Texas' head coach and 250,000 dollars are in the books for a national title.
While the Big 12 coaches already voted Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy as the greatest coach this year, the Associated Press Coach of the Year has yet to be selected and Sarkisian may have a shot at being named.
