WATCH: Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Finds JT Sanders For Easy TD
Not long after he had pelted Ja'Tavion Sanders in the helmet on a pass that Sanders wasn't ready for, Quinn Ewers was able to find his talented tight end for a touchdown in Saturday's opener against the Rice Owls at DKR.
The first half did not go nearly as planned for the Longhorn offense, but clearly Steve Sarkisian gave them a hell of a talking to in the locker room. After scoring just one touchdown in the first half, the Longhorns scored touchdowns on their first two possessions in the second half.
The second one felt very much like a redemption play as well, when you consider just how rusty Ewers and this offensive unit looked. Sanders made the grab and showed off his athleticism, jogging in from 44 yards out for the touchdown.
The touchdown gave Texas the 30-3 lead, and also gave Ewers his third touchdown of the day against what appears to be a very overmatched Rice defense. This shouldn't be too surprising as Rice head coach Mike Bloomgren raved about how surgical Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is when it comes to drawing up plays.
The former Alabama offensive coordinator is in year three as the Texas head coach and is hoping to unlock the potential that Ewers has shown both in high school and at the college level. Drawing up easy throws like that for the second-year starter will make everyone's life much easier on offense.
Aside from beginning to connect with his elite pass catchers, Ewers can also be seen using his legs more than ever in the game against Rice.
