WATCH: Texas Longhorns RB Jonathon Brooks Punches in TD After Strip-Sack vs. Kansas State Wildcats
AUSTIN, Texas -- At long last, the Texas Longhorns have converted in the red zone, but they owe a major thanks to their defense.
In the third quarter of Saturday's meeting with the No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats, the Texas defense had K-State backed up in the shadow of its own goal line. With the pressure mounting and Texas already holding a 17-7 lead, the Wildcats need to give themselves some room to comfortably operate.
But the Longhorns defense continued flying to the football, as Ethan Burke sacked K-State quarterback Will Howard, who lost the ball on the play. It appeared that Howard had recovered the fumble, but the Longhorns were awarded possession after the review determined that Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford jumped on the ball.
Here's a look at Burke's strip-sack:
After the fumble recovery, it took one play for Texas running back Jonathon Brooks to punch in his ninth total touchdown of the season. He got into the end zone from five yards out to give the Longhorns a 27-7 lead.
Take a look:
"It means a lot," Brooks said earlier in the season. "I trust in my o-line, I trusted the calling, and we went to work this week in practice. So we really honed in on finishing blocks and finishing runs and just making that impact."
Despite Brooks' touchdown, he committed a costly fumble at the beginning of the fourth quarter that gave K-State the ball back. The Wildcats scored right away to tie the game with 12:37 to play.
