Former Texas LB Juwan Mitchell Dismissed From Arizona State
Juwan Mitchell spent two seasons at Texas before entering the transfer portal. Now, he'll be at his third school in three years.
Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham announced Monday that Mitchell had been dismissed from the program. The school did not provide an answer for his dismissal.
"Juwan Mitchell is no longer with the team," Dillingham said after practice Monday. "Culture wins. It is very, very simple, culture wins. You are either going to practice how we practice, live how we live, be a good person, compete, say yes sir and no sir, open doors for people. Be genuinely a good person or do things right, or you are not."
Mitchell, a sixth-year senior who opted in on his COVID-19 eligibility waiver, was expected to be the Sun Devils' starting middle linebacker. He was one of the top players added by Dillingham, a first-year head coach following his success as Oregon's offensive coordinator, via the transfer portal this winter.
Best known for his 2020 season, where he finished as Texas' leading tackler with 62 stops, Mitchell spent the past two seasons at the Univeristy of Tennessee. He played in 12 games during his time in Knoxville, registering 51 total tackles and an interception.
Mitchell totaled 43 tackles and an interception in his final season with Tennessee. During his two seasons with the Longhorns, he was credited with 99 stops, eight tackles for loss and three sacks.
The Longhorns open the regular season at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Sept. 2 against Rice.
