WATCH: Texas Longhorns QB Maalik Murphy Drops In TD to Adonai Mitchell vs. Kansas State Wildcats
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns quarterback Maalik Murphy seems to be taking a liking to receiver Adonai Mitchell.
After connecting with him for a pair of scores in last week's 35-6 win over the BYU Cougars, Murphy found Mitchell in the end zone once again on Texas' second drive of Saturday's meeting with the Kansas State Wildcats at DKR. The Longhorns took an early 7-0 lead after Murphy dotted Mitchell for a 37-yard touchdown.
Take a look:
Mitchell how has eight receiving touchdowns this season, which leads the team. He's also caught a touchdown in three straight games. In the win over BYU, he finished with three catches for 59 yards and the two scores.
As for Murphy, Saturday's game marked his second-career collegiate start. After the touchdown drive, he was 4 of 6 for 78 yards and the score.
This was similar to how last week's game started, as the early play-calling from coach Steve Sarkisian allowed to young quarterback to build more confidence.
“He believed in me,” Murphy said of Sarkisian. “If he's able to script that many openers as passes for me in my first start, that kind of just tells me something that he's not letting off the gas and he believes in my ability. So that was huge.”
Murphy then found Mitchell again on the next drive, this time for a 47-yard catch on another deep ball.
The Longhorns will look to keep their foot on the pedal as the first half treads on in Austin.
