Former Longhorns S Michael Huff Named to 2024 CFB Hall of Fame Ballot
One of the top defenders in the history of the Texas Longhorns football program is finally one step closer to being recognized amongst the all-time best in college football.
Former Texas safety Michael Huff has earned his way onto the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame class of 2024, per an announcement on Monday. He joins a stacked ballot of 78 former players, highlighted by the likes of Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison, Michael Vick and Marshawn Lynch.
"It’s an honor to be on the ballot, and mentioned with some of the best to ever play college football," Huff tweeted.
Huff was a vital part of the legendary Texas team that won it all during the 2005 season after a 41-38 win over the USC Trojans at the Rose Bowl. It was his fumble recovery of an infamous Reggie Bush lateral in the first half that helped swing momentum Texas' way. Huff posted a collegiate-best 12 total tackles in that win.
In just two years as a Longhorn, he posted 149 tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles and four interceptions. He would go on to be drafted at No. 7 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the then-Oakland Raiders. Huff spent nearly his entire professional career with the Raiders, playing seven of his eight seasons with the team.
Huff played in every game for the first five years of his NFL career. He finished his pro playing days with 118 games played, 446 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, 11 interceptions and 55 passes defended.
The finalists for the 2024 class will be announced early next year, with the induction ceremony set for Dec. 10, 2024, in Atlanta.
