Texas Longhorns Offer Four-Star Running Back
Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman continues his activity off the field by extending an offer to Javontae Barnes from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Listed as the No. 7 running back talent in the 2022 cycle according to 247Sports, Barnes has notched offers from some quality programs, including Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and many more.
Barnes highlighted his great conversation with Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton on Twitter when receiving the offer.
Thoughts
Coach Stan Drayton has been a huge pickup for the Longhorns as of late, gathering some great running back talent, most notably featuring the No.1 back in the 2020 class Bijan Robinson. In the past Drayton has had success with some of the world’s best, including Cowboys running back Ezekial Elliot and former Bears talent Matt Forte. Barnes would be a great fit for a currently stacked running back room in the Forty Acres, but he shouldn't be the top priority for Herman going forward. An even bigger addition for the 2022 class would be four-star running back Jaydon Blue, who is trending to choose between the Texas Longhorns and the LSU Tigers.
247Sports recruiting analyst Blair Angulo had the following words about the young talent:
“Strong, muscular build with long arms and a stout lower half. Flashes tremendous upside as every-down back. Rumbles his way down field and can drag defenders with him after contact. Ability to break tackles and gain extra yardage. Comfortable bursting between the tackles with impressive jump cuts at second level. Good foot speed and can be an asset as pass catcher out of the backfield. Willing pass blocker who consistently keeps a clean pocket. Could improve overall wiggle. Upside as multi-year Power Five starter, All-Conference type performer and NFL Draft Day 2 selection.”
