WATCH: Texas Longhorns QB Maalik Murphy Finds Adonai Mitchell for Second TD vs. BYU Cougars
AUSTIN, Texas -- It was far from perfect for the Texas Longhorns in Saturday's 35-6 win over the BYU Cougars in Austin, but quarterback Maalik Murphy still made some key throws and plays en route to building a comfortable lead in the second half.
After tossing his first collegiate touchdown in the second quarter on a 30-yard pass to Adonai Mitchell, Murphy looked the receiver's way again in the fourth quarter to help put BYU away. This time though, Mitchell did some more of the dirty work to earn his second touchdown of the day, as he snagged the pass out of the air before powering through the defense and into the end zone.
The Longhorns got back into scoring position for the touchdown thanks to a 45-yard return on an interception from safety Michael Taaffe.
Here's a look at the touchdown:
Mitchell continues to show why he was regarded as an elite touchdown machine upon transferring from Georgia this offseason. After catching a 14-yard touchdown on his only grab of the 31-24 win over Houston, he had two scores on three total catches by the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter on Saturday.
He's now up to seven receiving touchdowns this season. This ties the career total he had during his two seasons with Georgia. Mitchell also had the best receiving game of his career earlier in the season when he posted 10 grabs for 141 yards and a touchdown in the 40-14 win over Kansas on Sept. 30.
