WATCH: Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Gashes Kansas Jayhawks with Long TD Run
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has gotten off to a hot start with his legs this season after having just one rushing touchdown last year. In last Saturday's blowout win over the Baylor Bears, he even set a career-high mark with a 29-yard rushing touchdown.
But he made sure to top that - and quickly - on the first drive of Saturday's meeting with the No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks. Faced with a 3rd and 9, Ewers showed off the speed and burst through the Kansas defense untouched for a 30-yard touchdown run.
The Longhorns took a 7-0 lead after a quick 88-yard drive soaked up just two minutes of game clock.
Take a look:
Ewers now has four rushing touchdowns this season. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian continues to emphasize his trust in Ewers this season.
“He’s been in some big-time environments and has performed at the highest level in those environments,” Sarkisian said. “And maybe in some other ones, not so hot. But I think he’s learned from those, and so I trust in Quinn. This guy is more than capable of having a big-time season for us.”
Ewers spoke about the challenge the Jayhawks present headed into Saturday. He made it clear Texas can't overlook them.
"They're a great team. Obviously, they're undefeated. We go into every game like it's a championship game. We don't overlook any opponent."
If he can keep up the production with his legs, Ewers could be leading the Longhorns to a big win over Kansas.
