Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Lighting Up Oklahoma State Cowboys in First Half of Big 12 Championship
ARLINGTON -- If not for a brutal interception that gift-wrapped a touchdown to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Quinn Ewers might've had the best half of football of any college quarterback in recent memory, as the No. 7 Texas Longhorns jumped out to a 35-14 halftime lead in Saturday's Big 12 Championship in Arlington.
Ewers and the Texas offense went nuclear in the first half, scoring a touchdown on five of six drives. He finished the half 23 of 31 passing for 354 yards, four touchdowns and the one interception.
Per Texas, Ewers' four passing touchdowns tied a Big 12 Championship Game record after just one half of play.
Here's the full information release:
"Quinn Ewers 4th TD pass of the day ties the Big 12 Championship Game record, and is the most-ever in a half in the conference's championship game history. And, Ewers 346 yards passing in the first half already ranks as the 5th-most passing yards in a Big 12 Championship Game."
Ewers connected with nine different receivers in the first half, as Adonai Mitchell led the way with three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Xavier Worthy added three catches for 69 yards, but it was Jordan Whittington and Ja'Tavion Sanders that both led the team with four catches apiece.
Prior to the game, ESPN reported that Ewers is leaning towards returning for a fourth college football season rather than declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. The redshirt sophomore spent one season at Ohio State before transferring to Texas in 2022.
If Ewers officially returns, the Longhorns will be set up for more success next season as they head to the SEC.
