Quinn Ewers vs. Jalen Milroe: Is Texas Longhorns Star Best Junior QB in The Country?
AUSTIN -- Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers got the best of Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide this past September in Tuscaloosa with a 34-24 win before both teams would go on to make it to the College Football Playoff.
But when ranking junior QBs, which one is better headed into the 2024 season?
Bleacher Report recently revealed an interesting two-player ranking of all juniors at each position headed into 2024. Ewers and Milroe were the two selections at quarterback, though it was Milroe who earned honorable mention while Ewers claimed the top spot.
Here's what B/R had to say about Ewers:
"One of the more surprising signal-callers to return this offseason was Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers," B/R wrote. "He had his most productive season yet in 2023 ..."
Ewers and Milroe, both Texas natives, had their seasons end in eerily-similar fashion on the goal line in the CFP, but finished the 2023 campaign as two of the best QBs in the country after leading their squads to conference championships.
They could meet again in the 2024 SEC Championship, but Ewers will have two of Milroe's pass-catchers from a season ago at his disposal in receiver Isaiah Bond and tight end Amari Niblack.
Ewers missed two games due to injury, but still finished 2023 having gone 272 of 394 passing for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns and six picks. He added five rushing touchdowns as well.
Meanwhile, Milroe bounced back from that loss to Texas and led the Tide to 10 straight wins, which included a victory over undefeated Georgia in the SEC Championship. He ended the season 187 of 284 passing for 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions along with 12 rushing touchdowns.
